Now that you’ve seen what Paulette’s Camper looked like before, you will love the bright and inviting space that it is now.  Every small detail from the beautiful floral wallpaper to the new kitchen faucet and pink accents ties the space together perfectly.

Paulette, being a crafty creator said she made the curtains from a shower curtain cut in quarters for the bedroom area and dinette area, and flour sack towels from Target for the kitchen. You can find them from Target in the Magnolia Home and Heart collection and the tassels from Hobby Lobby.

She also made the stove cover from 24×24 plywood project wood, trimmed along the sides for height, and added beautiful handles from Hobby Lobby. The paint used is chalk and Annie Sloan brown furniture wax for details to match the wood accents around the dinette area.

Her craftiness has paid off in an amazing way! The camper is now a gorgeous ‘Pretty in Pink’ comfortable place to unwind after a long week.

RV Furniture | Top Sofas to Replace The Seating In Your RV

RV Furniture | Top Sofas to Replace The Seating In Your RV

RV Furniture | Are you looking to upgrade and replace the seating in your RV?

Is it outdated, broken, and just flat-out uncomfortable to sit or sleep on?

If you answered yes, then this post is for you!

During any RV renovation, replacing your seating is a final touch to add character, match the new décor, and make the space feel new again.

So, if you’re looking for some sofa inspiration from other RV’er’s, where to buy and more than scroll on! 🙂

But, first a few tips on what you can choose from and how to get the old couches out.

RV Sofa Ideas

Tip #1 – Measure first!!

There are many different sizes of sofas you can choose from when replacing your RV Furniture. The last thing you want is to order a couch that is too large or too small for the space.

Our couch is 65 inches long, although we could fit a long couch in the space, 65 inches is a perfect size.

Tip #2 – How to remove the existing RV Couch

I remember reading a Facebook post about someone asking how to remove an existing couch from the tiny RV door, and I thought this was a great question!!

Usually, the couches are placed in the RV before the slide(s) or the walls are complete so they didn’t have to hassle getting the large furniture through the small doors.

Now, this also depends on the style of RV you have. If you have a toy hauler, it would be easy to replace a couch.

However, for an RV like ours, getting the couch in or out is a challenge. So, the solution; just like a couch is built, it can be taken apart.

So, if you have just a door and no toy hauler RV, I recommend taking the couch or all the RV Furniture out in pieces. You will need the proper tools, patience, and time to do this, but it will make it easier and possible to get the bulky and heavy RV couches out!

Tip #3 – Buy a couch that can be put together inside the RV

When you purchase your new couch, it’s recommended to purchase one that can be assembled.

Many places like Amazon, Wayfair, and Ikea offer this option to make it easier to carry and transport.

This also cuts out the “how do we fit it through the RV door” scenario.

Types of Seating you can choose

Regular Sofa – This option is best if you do not plan on having guests join you for your camping trips. There are also more styles and options if you choose from.

Futon Sofabed or Pull-out bed couch conversion – There are many options to choose from with a futon or pull-out bed. These are great RV couch options if you like to have guests while camping or if you’re full-time.

Day Bed – These are usually about 74 inches, so I would definitely measure the space before going the day bed route. The plus side of choosing a day bed is if you have a guest they will be able to sleep on a twin size mattress versus a futon or pull-out bed conversion. A day bed also has the option to have a trundle which you can have an additional twin mattress for another guest.

RV Couch – You can even replace the existing and probably worn-out sofas with a new couch that is made for RVs.

Build your own – I have seen some crafty individuals build their own seating in their RV. The nice option of building your own is you create multipurpose storage along with the seating. If you are wanting to go this route and really customize the space, I suggest checking out some Youtube videos.

Where to buy the best couch options for your RV

Amazon is my first go-to when buying anything for our RV. We have Amazon Prime, so we can get free shipping on many items including sofas. They even have RV couches, if you want to swap your existing seating for couches or chairs that are made for RVs.

Ikea is the ultimate assemble yourself furniture store. Everything comes in boxes with instructions and tools to DIY your own. Ikea is a great place to buy a new couch for your RV because you can even customize the sizes to your liking and space.

Wayfair is great to shop for a new couch because they have many different options and sometimes you can find a great deal or sale.

Target, Costco, or Nebraska Furniture Mart are some of the other places you could take a look at to find the perfect couch for your RV!

12 DIY Ways You Can Update Your RV Camper

12 DIY Ways You Can Update Your RV Camper

Update your RV and turn it from drab to fab so you can fall in love with camping again.

For years, RV manufacturers were stuck with colors and fabrics that weren’t pleasing to the modern RVer.

Therefore, it has become popular to take an older RV and renovate it to today’s standards of style and detail.

From personal experience, renovating an RV can be time-consuming, nerve-wracking, and can even feel impossible to accomplish.

However, from our own renovations that we have made in our RV, I know that the changes are worth it! I love that our RV is our own style because it feels like home!

Update your RV

1. Change the Flooring

Changing out the outdated carpet that can get worn and dirty is the best way to start renovating your RV.

Starting from the bottom in your design and working your way up will make an incredible difference.

Many people are choosing vinyl floors for their increased durability and lightweight for traveling.

2. Paint the Walls and Cabinets

Updating your RV with paint is a huge transformation and the first thing we did when we purchased our RV.

The beige walls were not my personal style and I opted for white to brighten up the RV. White also makes a small space feel larger.

It is an interior design trick of the trade. The lighter the colors, the larger the living space will feel.

For more tips on painting your RV’s Interior check out our post “How to easily paint your RV Interior walls”.

3. Replace or Paint your Slide Trim

If you have an older model RV, replacing the trim and getting rid of the carved faux wood will make a huge difference.

Many people are opting to replace the trim with natural wood panels, usually pine or walnut panels. They add a simple and modern rustic character to the space.

Some also choose to paint if the details aren’t too outdated.

We painted ours white, but one day will love to replace them with a gorgeous, stained wood panel like my sister did with her RV.

4. Wallpaper!!

Wallpaper, wallpaper, wallpaper!!RV Wallpaper

So many people are opting to use wallpaper because not only is it lightweight, the patterns and technology are better than ever before.

The simple peel and stick wallpaper options are great for RV’s because they can easily be removed for a quick change in style.

Now, there are some temperature issues that you will have to be wary of to ensure your wallpaper stays. For example, too much moisture or heat can cause the wallpaper to peel off.

For more tips and some wallpaper inspiration, check out our post, “How to use peel & stick wallpaper to transform your camper”.

5. Replace the Valances/Blinds

Removing our Valances and blinds was the very first update we did in our RV. I wanted to make our space feel more like a home by using curtains instead.

I chose to make my own curtains, but you can find some of the various sizes on Amazon or other stores.

Changing the valances made a great difference in removing the outdated typical RV feel and more of the cozy home on wheels vibe.

Another popular way to update your window treatments in the RV is to use new blinds like roller blinds or roman shades. Whichever you choose, I know it will look amazing!

6. Update your Seating

Modern Motorhome Renovation

We all know the couches and chairs that come in RV’s do not last, especially if you live full-time. Many of the pleather couches tend to wear out quickly.

For us, our recliners broke within the first year, one recliner also began to sag which made it uncomfortable to sit.

The couch we have pulls out into a bed, but that did not last very long. The bars poke out and it is so uncomfortable to sleep on!

Therefore, updating your couches and chairs is common and you could purchase something with more durability.

For our cushion covers on the bench seat, I opted to purchase a durable fabric from ELuxury (find on Amazon) and sewed new cushion covers. This can always be an option to update your bench or chair seating as well.

7. Update your Cabinet and Door Hardware

This is by far the easiest update you can do in your RV. It’s a simple switch that can make a huge impact.

After we painted our cabinets white from a dark espresso brown, I updated the handles from silver to modern farmhouse style black.

There are so many options you can choose from to update your cabinets and door hardware.

Tip – Measure not once but twice! Make sure the cabinet’s hardware will fit the pre-existing screw holes (how far apart of the holes). I ordered so quickly that I ended up messing up the sizes twice. Instead of ordering 3 inches, I ended up ordering 5 inches the first time and 4 inches the second time. Learn from my mistake! 😊

8. Change your Table

Changing your table out can be super easy! There are so many renovation ideas where people replaced their table for one from Amazon or Ikea.

Others have created their own with extra storage, while some have also utilized the space for a home office instead of a dining table.

Whatever works for your space, go for it! Just be sure you can secure it if you plan on traveling!

9. Change your Countertops

My sister-in-law updated her RV’s countertops with marble-style contact paper. It turned out so beautiful!

A super popular remodel for RV countertops are butcher block tops. They add in the natural wood tones and are super durable as well. I love the look of the butcher block countertops.

You can even get a countertop paint kit from a local hardware store or amazon. However you choose to update your countertops, I am sure it will turn out amazing!

10. Replace the Sinks in the bathroom and Kitchen

Let’s face it, the sinks that come in RV’s are usually plastic and they tend to discolor over the years.

Replacing your sink is a huge transformation and will add value to your RV if you ever decide to resale.

Here are a few examples of sinks that have been changed out in RV’s.

11. Update your Faucets/Shower Head

If you plan on updating your sink, you may want to consider updating the faucet hardware as well.

We updated our kitchen faucet from a stainless-steel standard faucet to a gorgeous matte black one. It was one of the best decisions in our RV renovation.

12. Change our Kitchen and Bathroom Backsplash

There are so many styles of backsplashes you can add to your RV kitchen and bathroom that will transform the area.

We first chose a peel and stick tile, but after two years, we changed our kitchen backsplash to a white shiplap.

This is an area where you can get super creative!

You can use a stencil and sharpie, a peel and stick tile, real tile (if you don’t travel much because of weight and cracking), wood pieces, or even a lightweight textured ceiling tile as a backsplash.

The possibilities are endless!

RV Wallpaper | So many RVer’s and even home interior designers are embracing a new style and bringing back wallpaper.

For years the idea of wallpaper was a tacky way to decorate because the patterns available were not pleasing.

Well, that was then!

Now, it’s become a great way to add texture, patterns, and character to any space.

Wallpaper has also come a long way with availability to patterns.

Here is some ways you can add wallpaper in your camper to spruce up your campers interior.

Can you use Peel and Stick wallpaper in an RV?

Absolutely, YES!

We used a shiplap peel and stick wallpaper in our RV Bathroom.

Now, the wallpaper we used was white, so we decided to paint the wall ‘white’ before adding the wallpaper.

Just so you know, our walls were beige vinyl before painting them. I noticed when I tried to add the white shiplap wallpaper, the color of the wallpaper become faded. So by painting the wall first, allowing it to dry, then adding the wallpaper allowed the colors to be true.

Tip: Clean your walls before adding the peel and stick wallpaper to ensure the paper sticks and there is no dust.

Quick note: You can also use an extra spray adhesive for an extra stick (if you don’t plan on removing it). Sometimes if you store your RV, the heat could cause the paper to peel. Although this has not happened to me, I have heard of it happening.

Can you wallpaper over the RV wallpaper?

This depends on if your wallpaper is a strip or covers the whole wall. If you have a wallpaper strip, it is best to remove that strip from the wall first. The reason being is so you don’t have any uneven lines in your new wallpaper.

Tip: Make sure your walls are smooth before application of new wallpaper

Does Peel And Stick Wallpaper come off easily?

The simple answer is YES! Compared to traditional wallpaper or paint; peel and stick wallpaper is easy to remove and leaves little to no residue.

Peel and Stick Wallpaper is also a better option because it’s quick and easy to install. Plus, the application and clean up are super easy compared to traditional wallpaper. There is no sticky glue or messy paint to deal with.

How to use Peel and Stick Wallpaper

I feel like using the peel and stick wallpaper is super easy. You just have to make sure you have the right tools in order to keep air bubbles from accumulating under the paper.

You’ll want to get a wallpaper tool kit to help you measure, cut, and smooth it out once you apply it to the walls.

I love using the peel and stick wallpaper because you don’t have to deal with the sticky and messy glue.

Applying the peel and stick wallpaper is easy!

  1. Measure the piece of wall
  2. Measure the paper
  3. Cut accordingly
  4. Peel off the backing
  5. Stick on the wall slowly while applying pressure from the smoothing tool to release the air bubbles.

How to Start Your Full-Time RV Living Journey

How to Start Your Full-Time RV Living Journey

So you want to live in an RV?how to start your full-time RV living journey

That’s Awesome! We started our Full-Time RV Living Journey in April of 2018.

It’s been exactly that, a journey! We have enjoyed the lifestyle so far but to be honest, there were a lot of beginning steps and planning that happened before we made the move.

I think when considering any significant lifestyle change, there needs to be a lot of research, planning, and personal consideration before-hand. Living in an RV is an adjustment, especially if you’ve lived in either a home or apartment your entire life.

If you’ve been camping with an RV, you’re already a step ahead because you at least know how things work like the tanks and slide outs. For us, we had no clue and learned everything when we started full-time RV living and that’s ok too!

I’m going to go over a lot of detailed information on what you should consider before purchasing and also how to get in to that RV.

1. Check your Finances, Monthly Budget, and Current Living Situation

This step is extremely important. The last thing you want to do is get into this lifestyle if you can’t afford it. It sounds odd because you think you can probably save money by full-time RV living, and in some circumstances, you can.

However, if you plan to stay at RV Parks, then this could up your monthly living cost. In some ways, living in an RV at a park can be just the same living cost as a mortgage payment. It depends on where you live, of course.

I know many RVers who do save money and have paid off their debt by living in their RV. This option is mainly possible by choosing to Boondock or having the ability to live either on family land (like us) or their own land. I’m not saying it’s impossible to live in an RV Park and save money, but many RV parks are around $400 to $1000 a month for full hookups.

For us, we chose to Finance our RV because we wanted something brand new. We also live on family-owned land and only pay $100 a month for electricity and water. It has allowed us to save and pay off debt.

To check your finances, you’ll want to look at your monthly credits and deposits.

Questions to ask:

  • How much are you spending on your living expenses?
  • Are you going to live in an RV to decrease those expenses?
  • How much are you spending on monthly debt payments, like credit cards or loans, if you have any?

If you’re not budgeting monthly, I highly suggest you do so before jumping into this lifestyle, especially if you’re planning on traveling.

  • Also, if you’re in a home, are you going to be selling or keeping the home?
  • If you’re leasing, when is your lease up?

These are some of the questions to ask and consider before changing to the RV lifestyle.

2. Research, Research, Research

Read Blogs, like this one.

We started our research by reading blogs and learning from other’s experiences. Also, we researched different types of RV’s for over a year before we made our purchase.

We considered used and new RVs. If you’re torn between purchasing new or used check out the post specifically one the pros and cons of buying new vs used.
Blog Post: Should You Buy a New or Used RV? Pros vs. Cons

Questions to ask:

  • What style of RV are you looking to purchase?
  • What are your family’s needs?
  • Will you need a bunkhouse, a toy hauler, an industrial-style fridge, or a king-size bed?

RV’s today come in all different styles and features.

3. Consider the Lifestyle Changes (Are you going to Travel or Live Stationary?)

Moving into an RV is a complete lifestyle change. If you’re someone who can adapt super easily and quickly then go for it. However, if there are things like taking a long hot shower that is a necessity for you, then understand that it may not happen unless you have a tankless water heater, stay at a hotel, or there is a campground shower.

Another thing to consider is you will have to take care of your own wastewater/sewer. For some, this can be a deal-breaker.

We realized when we moved into our RV that we never thought about the water after we used it or after we flushed our toilet. However, in an RV it became our responsibility to release our own tanks properly. It can be gross and stinky, to be honest.

For 6 months, after releasing our tanks every week, we would suffer from a horrible smell fumigating our living space. I struggled with trying out so many different tank solutions to keep them from smelling so horribly. After about 6 months and many trials and errors, we discovered that best Tank Treatment. You can check it out here and we still use the Happy Camper today.

Blog Post: RV Tank Treatment- Comparing the GEO Method and Happy Camper

Also, are you planning on traveling while living full-time in your RV? If so, there are things to consider like how you will get power, where you will release your tanks, and making campground reservations ahead of time. This alone can become stressful at the beginning until you get the hang of it.

And if you plan on traveling, how will you be able to continue making an income? Will you be Workamping, starting a business, or working remotely for your employer?

Or, maybe you are looking to live stationary in your RV. Will you be staying long term in an RV Park or on privately owned land with power and sewer hookups?

Having a place to bring your RV once you purchase is important. Make reservations with the desired RV park or have the full hookups ready on your land.

4. Minimize your Life

Another step you will want to consider and start as early as you can is minimizing your life. Start selling, giving, or throwing away the things you won’t need or aren’t taking with you. There is not much space in an RV so minimizing your closet, kitchen accessories and keepsakes is a must.

Another option is to keep what you want in a storage unit. We have on for the items we didn’t want to get rid of when we moved into our RV. If you’d like more info on downsizing, check out the Ultimate Guide to Downsizing for life in an RV. Great step by step to make it happen.

5. Purchase and Register your RV

Once you’ve considered the lifestyle change and researched the perfect RV for you and your family, it’s time to purchase. This is the easy step as long as you have your finances in check.

You have the option to finance your purchase or you can pay cash if you’ve saved enough. Either way, it’s exciting to purchase your new home on wheels.

Now, I would check the requirements of your state for inspection and/or registration. If you purchased from a dealer in your same residential state then the dealer should take care of the registration. However, if you purchase out of state or privately, the registration is up to you to take care of. I know in Texas, we had 30 days to have the RV that we purchased in Oklahoma to get inspected and registered.

6. Move-in with just the Necessities first

When you’re moving from a larger space to a smaller one, my biggest piece of advice is to start with the necessities. Items like towels, tools, and clothes you wear on a daily basis before you start with the want items.

If you’d like to bring on some keepsakes or heirlooms, do it, but just make sure the daily items you use have a spot first. One cool thing about living in an RV or a smaller space is it allows you to get creative when it comes to storage. In an RV there is plenty of opportunities to utilize vertical storage space on the walls and behind doors. You can check out more vertical storage space ideas here.

7. Enjoy the Full-Time RV Living Lifestyle!

Last, but not least Enjoy the RV Life! Whether you plan on hitting the road and exploring the unknown or living stationary, enjoy the journey and new lifestyle. It’s a big change but it can be extremely rewarding. The experiences you will encounter if you travel are one of a kind.

If you choose to stay stationary, I hope you enjoy the Full-Time RV living lifestyle as well. I know we have because it has taught us how to live minimally and be happy with the little things in life.
