RV Wallpaper | So many RVer’s and even home interior designers are embracing a new style and bringing back wallpaper.
For years the idea of wallpaper was a tacky way to decorate because the patterns available were not pleasing.
Well, that was then!
Now, it’s become a great way to add texture, patterns, and character to any space.
Wallpaper has also come a long way with availability to patterns.

Can you use Peel and Stick wallpaper in an RV?
Absolutely, YES!
We used a shiplap peel and stick wallpaper in our RV Bathroom.
Now, the wallpaper we used was white, so we decided to paint the wall ‘white’ before adding the wallpaper.
Just so you know, our walls were beige vinyl before painting them. I noticed when I tried to add the white shiplap wallpaper, the color of the wallpaper become faded. So by painting the wall first, allowing it to dry, then adding the wallpaper allowed the colors to be true.
Tip: Clean your walls before adding the peel and stick wallpaper to ensure the paper sticks and there is no dust.
Quick note: You can also use an extra spray adhesive for an extra stick (if you don’t plan on removing it). Sometimes if you store your RV, the heat could cause the paper to peel. Although this has not happened to me, I have heard of it happening.
Can you wallpaper over the RV wallpaper?
This depends on if your wallpaper is a strip or covers the whole wall. If you have a wallpaper strip, it is best to remove that strip from the wall first. The reason being is so you don’t have any uneven lines in your new wallpaper.
Tip: Make sure your walls are smooth before application of new wallpaper

How to use Peel and Stick Wallpaper
I feel like using the peel and stick wallpaper is super easy. You just have to make sure you have the right tools in order to keep air bubbles from accumulating under the paper.
You’ll want to get a wallpaper tool kit to help you measure, cut, and smooth it out once you apply it to the walls.
I love using the peel and stick wallpaper because you don’t have to deal with the sticky and messy glue.
Applying the peel and stick wallpaper is easy!
- Measure the piece of wall
- Measure the paper
- Cut accordingly
- Peel off the backing
- Stick on the wall slowly while applying pressure from the smoothing tool to release the air bubbles.

Can Command Strip hooks be attached and hold securely on a wall with peel and stick paper?
Yes! I don’t see why it wouldn’t! 🙂
The weight of the command strip item will pull the peel n stick wallpaper slowly down. I used it in my powder room and used command strips to hang a mirror. Oops it started sliding and pulling. Don’t do it.
Which peel & stick wallpaper brands did you work with & use?
I used the Shiplap wallpaper from Target. It worked great with no extra adhesive.
would the peel and stick wall paper stick to the interior vinyl of the old camper vans?
If it’s a clean and smooth surface, I don’t see why not. Our walls are vinyl as well and I painted them before adding the wallpaper.
We live in Michigan, extreme temps- worried about applying peel and stick wallpaper. I didn’t want to paint first..do u think this paper will stay on the wall?
Hey! I would just make sure you clean the wall and let it dry fully before applying. Also, set up a dehumidifier to help with the moisture that fluctuating temps can cause.
I want to wallpaper the inside of an RV but am having a hard time determining how much I need to order.
With the necessity for numerous cutouts its making it difficult for me to determine.

Hey Laura, I would measure the area that you are wanting to use the wallpaper for. Then, check and see how much a roll will cover. They should provide the dimensions. If you’re still unsure you could always purchase an extra roll and return it if you didn’t have to use it! 🙂
What kind of paint did you use on your vinyl walls prior to applying the stick and peel? Any tips for removing old decorative wall paper strips?
Hi! I used an oil-based primer by Kilz. For removing wallpaper, we didn’t have to but I have read a lot of RV’s use TSP to help remove and clean the walls.
I’m wanting to wallpaper my ceiling in my 66 Streamline, have you ever done a ceiling with peel and stick?
I have never done wallpaper in the ceiling, but I don’t see why it couldn’t be done. 🙂 There are also ceiling tiles that you could look into if you’d want. I’ve seen those be put up in RV’s.
I just bought a brand new travel trailer and want to put removable wallpaper on. How do I know if I need to take off existing wallpaper prior?
The new RVs have a vinyl wall covering. We didn’t take it off. Just primed/painted and put wallpaper over it. Usually, the older RVs have a strip of border wallpaper that has to be removed first.
I used a roll on glue found in wallpaper section at Lowe’s then used the wallpaper squeegee to smooth because wanted to make sure it stayed stuck!

Could you tell me what kind of paint to use on our ceilings?
I used Kilz Oil-based primer, then just a durable and washable white paint. You can choose any brand, but I was told to always use an oil-based primer first. 🙂 I hope this helps.

I’ve read a lot of people using a spray adhesive on the back of the peel and stick wallpaper. I know Krylon makes a version you can get on amazon. For us, we have had no issues with the wallpaper peeling but we also primed the wall first and live full-time. 🙂 I hope this helps!
Great post. Love your color schemes. I am wanting to cover the textured RV walls in our motorhome. Its a dark grey and I’d like a brighter wall. Will the peel and stick wallpaper stick to it if I have washed the existing wallpaper , maybe with TSP? I’d like to leave the existing wallpaper so that if we sell the RV I can peel it off. Or should I just say “Buy it the way it is”…?
If you leave the existing Wallpaper, you might end up with lines in your new wallpaper. It’s completely up to you, but I have seen nicely renovated RV’s sell better than RV’s that are factory. I think if you’re going to renovate, go for it all the way. 🙂

You can use whatever you like! The Peel and stick is a great option that doesn’t cause any damage if you decide on a different look later. 🙂

Hi Fanny, I would not use wallpaper in the shower itself, or anywhere with the potential for a lot of water like the shower toilet combos in some smaller RV’s. There are some great products out there you could use that are durable for highwater areas like showers. Check out Flextile.com for ideas 🙂
Hello! Great post. I have been trying to figure out how to easily cover the vinyl paper in our 2015 Coleman. It is a dark beige and I want to brighten the walls. Aside from cleaning the walls is there any other prep work like sanding I should do before installing the peel and stick wallpaper? Does this method do well temperature fluctuations like in winter when not in use. Should I use an extra adhesive when applying? Thank you!
Hi Lisa, I did paint the wall first and allowed it to dry a couple of days before applying the wallpaper. If you apply the wallpaper without painting first, the peel and stick should work just fine as long as the wall is clean and dry. 🙂
Used peel and stick paper lat fall in my RV. This spring the paper was all curled up, so disappointed. Loved the look but I guess it doesn’t stay on with the cold.
Oh no.. Did you make sure the wall was clean and dry before applying? This is key to keeping it sticky and adhering to the wall. I would also always keep Damp Rid in an RV to keep all the extra moisture RV’s tend to accumulate out. Especially if you’re in a humid area with a lot of rain or snow. 🙂

Since applying the peel and stick wallpaper, have you noticed any adverse effects that the temperature extremes in the trailer have had on the adhesion?
Not at all. After painting we waited a couple of days for it to fully dry before adding the wallpaper. We also keep damp rid in the bathroom and bedroom as well as have a dehumidifier.
I love that peel and stick wallpaper is so easy to remove – it makes it easier if you’re like me, changing your mind every few years. You can keep randomly updating your trailer so that it always feels new!
